“I am not the person I was 15 months ago”

“Hi everyone, my name is Phil, and I am an alcoholic in recovery. I have been sober for 15 months.

Sobriety has given me the greatest gift of all: clarity about what truly matters in life. Gratitude, love, and presence are now part of my everyday world—blessings I once overlooked, but never take for granted today.

The simple meanings of life are no longer distant ideas; they are lived daily through laughter, love, gratitude, and helping others.

I am not the person I was 15 months ago. I no longer judge—I care. I listen. I appreciate every single 24 hours of sobriety for the gift that it is.

Recovery has given me the opportunity to rebuild what I once lost: friendships, family connections, purpose in work, and most importantly, the will to keep living and living well.

Recovery is most powerful when we talk and connect with others who are walking the same path. They understand without explanation, they listen without judgment, and they offer advice that only one addict can give to another.

Recovery is beautiful. It builds bonds that cannot be shaken and friendships that cannot be broken. It reminds us that recovery is a lifelong journey—if we choose it—and that a better life is always waiting. A life where we are free again to live, laugh, and love”
